Olsson Parts saves classic Volvo BM tractors – renovating the old clutches
Having a tractor that is more than 40 years old is not just a matter of nostalgia. For the vast majority, this treasure is, above all, an important work tool. So what should you do when your tractor breaks down and critical parts are no longer manufactured?
Olsson Parts offers a unique concept whereby worn clutches from older, larger Volvo BM tractors, such as the 800 series and the classic Volvo BM 2654, are renovated to new condition.
“These BM tractors have not been manufactured since 1985, but by taking in our customers’ worn out clutches, we can give them a new lease of life. It’s a special feeling to be able to help keep these machines running, even though the parts are no longer manufactured,” says Håkan Ekstrand, CEO of Olsson Parts.
Alone in the world
Although renovation is costly – the process is carried out by craftsmen in Sweden – there are many who appreciate the opportunity to extend the service life of their faithful old servants. Olsson Parts is also the only company in the world to offer this type of renovation service for this particular clutch, and has been doing this work for almost 20 years. A while back, however, an obstacle arose when the manufacture of key components was suddenly stopped:
“To ensure the high quality we ourselves are striving to achieve, it was vital to find producers demanding the same high level of quality. We have now finally identified manufacturers who can produce these components, which means we are able to resume work on renovating the clutches,” concludes Håkan Ekstrand.
