WINTER LOGGING Olsson Parts

Prepare your tractor for winter logging and forestry work

Whether you’re just going to take out a few trees or are planning a major felling project, it’s high time to check out both your tractor and your forest trailer. Here we offer some tips and advice:

  • Make sure the hydraulic pump has the correct flow for your tractor and forest trailer. A pump with insufficient flow means the tractor has to work too hard, which makes the work slower. You must be able to operate at maximum capacity.
  • Check that the tractor’s hydraulic system, valves, pumps and hoses are in good condition.
  • Check the condition of the hydraulic stabilisers.
  • Check the glycol content of your coolant.
  • Make sure the battery is fully charged and in good condition.
  • Check that the alternator is intact and functioning properly, and check the belt tension to the alternator and the condition of the belt. Replace if necessary.
  • Check the condition of the starter motor.
  • By using an engine heater that is in good working order, you avoid cold starts, which not only use more fuel but also wear out both the engine and the exhaust system.
  • Check that all lamps, sensors and heating systems are in good working order.
  • Check all rubber components, such as belts and mouldings. The cold can make them brittle, increasing the risk of cracks and damage.
  • Start your day in a heated cab! Feel free to supplement the cab heater with a good quality, additional cab heater. *
  • To make working in the forest as efficient as possible, it is important to have the right equipment and to keep it in good condition. By making sure that the hydraulics are working, the pump has the correct flow and both the tractor and the forest trailer are
  • serviced to the required extent, you can avoid problems and get the most out of your work in the forest.

*/ Olsson Parts only sells universal and stationary cab heaters that are connected with a cord when the vehicle is stationary.
